DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Suffolk Wedding Photography

Hi, I’m Dominic, a documentary wedding photographer based in the Suffolk seaside town of Aldeburgh. Since 2008 I’ve photographed weddings and elopements across Suffolk, the East of England and beyond.

Spend your Wedding day with your guests, not posing for endless photos

The couples who book me don’t want to spend their time posing for countless portraits and group shots. They want to share their celebration with the people who mean the most to them, with just the minimum of interruption for photos. My reportage wedding photography style fits with this perfectly, adapting my approach to your plans whilst making images you and your family will want to look back on for years to come.

More than 500 weddings and counting!

To date, I’ve shot more than 500 weddings, at all times of year, in all weather, in more venues than I can remember. By booking me, you can rest assured, knowing you’ve an experienced pro on your team.

What you’ll get from me

I’ve done this a few times before, but am guessing you haven’t. I completely understand that researching (and comparing), wedding photographers can be pretty daunting.

You’ve probably seen photographers offering Gold, Silver & Bronze packages, right (and let’s face it, who really wants to end up with the bronze option)?

That’s why I have just one single package for all-day weddings. Over the years, this has proven to work for pretty much all weddings, whatever your plans, and includes options to add albums, prints or additional days coverage.

What’s included?

  • All day coverage by Dominic from 2 hours before your ceremony until 1 hour after your first dance

  • Around 500 images, fully edited and delivered by digital download in around 4 weeks

  • A free slideshow of the best-bits from your day along with online gallery for 3 months

  • Free image downloads for you and your guests

  • Knowing you’ve an experienced professional on your team, always there with a calm approach and reassuring word.

Your Questions Answered?

  • Absoluetly! You’re not alone, I’m not so keen on posing either. So, whilst I’ll shoot some portraits (if you want me to), my photos are more about capturing the connection between the two of you, rather than a making a bunch of ‘awesome’ pics to put on instagram. Think directed rather than posed. I’m not really the type of photographer who will ask you to smile at the camera. My job to help you to look good in the photos, which will happen if you’re relaxed and able to be yourselves. I’ll help you to do this. Also, I want to keep you away from your guests for the shortest time so work pretty quickly. Think quality over quantity.

  • I’m lucky enough to live in the pretty seaside town of Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. The area’s been home since escaping London and the rat-race a decade ago. I photograph weddings across the whole of the UK.

  • No, not at all. Wedding photography is a creative thing, and shooting somewhere new brings fresh eyes and opportunities for inspiration. If anything, it can be an advantage! I’ve been photographing weddings since 2008 and these days very little phases me. I’ll always research sunset times, the direction of light, travel logistics, and venue arrangements before a wedding so can hit the ground running.

  • Typically, more than you’ll ever use! The exact number will vary from one wedding to the next but for a full day, it’s going to be at least 500 photos. For smaller weddings a little less.

  • In the peak summer months, allow 4-6 weeks. In spring and autumn (which is usually a bit quieter), 2-3 weeks. You’ll receive a series of emails with links to your online gallery where you can view and share your pics, along with notes on downloading and keeping them safe.

  • For full-day weddings, I’ll arrive a couple of hours before your ceremony and finish an hour after your first dance. This way, you’re not tied to a fixed timescale so when timings drift (as they inevitably will), there’s no awkward conversation about staying later and additional hours. For small weddings, we’ll agree coverage in advance.

  • So, first and foremost, in over 500 weddings, it hasn’t happened yet! That being said, it’s the number one dread that keeps wedding photographers awake at night… That’s why there are extensive networks of photographers who will help each other out in the event of a crisis. While I’ve never needed to call on them for help, I’ve covered for others a couple of times. If the worst happens, I’ll move heaven and earth to either be there in person, or find cover. If all else fails, you’ll receive a full refund of everything you’ve paid.

  • Yes. Plus I can supply a certificate of cover if your venue asks to see it. Additionally, I use the best quality cameras and kit, with lots of backups and spares - if something stops working (which has happened), it’s a simple case of grabbing a backup from my kit back and carrying on. No hassles or dramas.

  • I began taking photos as a kid and had my first pictures published aged 13. That’s a long time ago now! Aside from a few years when my career went off at a bit of a tangent (I ended up as an insurance consultant and was rubbish at it), the majority of my working life has revolved around photography.

  • Not wanting to blow my own trumpet too loudly, but yes. My work has received international recognition from the Wedding Photojournalists Association (I’m the number 1 ranked photojournalist in Suffolk) and has appeared in all the main wedding blogs and magazines. I’ve also been a judge for the photography category of The Wedding Industry Awards since 2017. This year I completed an MA in photography and was a guest lecturer at Falmouth University. Looking forward, I’m currently doing background research for a PhD thesis on wedding photography and the value we place on it.
